A quick look at the term 'Mass migration'
Recently I saw the argument made that the UK government needs to address the mass migration that is impacting the country. This is something left wingers need to come to terms with in an effort to understand the plight of the right wing voters and patriots of the UK. Well dear reader like a moth to the flame I was hooked. What is ‘Mass migration’ I asked? Firstly mass migration is a scary phrase these days and as we all know it is used by sneaky politicians to push policies and agendas that serve them and not the people they claim to serve. If you have done any sort of research on fascism and authoritarianism then you know the perceived other is a useful way to consolidate power and stoke resentment towards your enemies. So mass migration is a very convenient phrase for these sorts of people. Secondly and I suppose more importantly to this piece, when I hear mass migration I think of the partition of India where some 18 million people were displaced and had to migrate across the country. I think of the population exchange between Greece and Turkey where nearly 2 million people had to pack up and leave their homes. What I don’t think of is the migration of refugees to the UK.
So according to the person who made the statement, “between the year 2000 and now, 2026 just in case you have time traveled here, the population of the UK went from 60 million to 70 million of which nearly 60% is made up of immigrants.” They then go on to claim “that it took 50 years for it to go from 50 million to 60 million so there is clearly mass migration going on here.” He then did a quick comment to say this information is courtesy of Claude. I can only assume he thought this was an impressive statement because an AI would never get the facts wrong. So obviously at this point I knew that I would never convince this person they were barking up the wrong alley if they took the word of an AI over...actual research. No matter I needed to brush up on my information conveying skills so I ploughed on. It was a grand game of back and forth were I fired out actual evidence and he stuck to his guns. This guy knew how to turn a blind eye to the facts. I broke down the numbers for him that if Claude had indeed provided the accurate numbers then that meant that every year for the last 26 years the average amount of people migrating to the UK is 240,000. That isn’t much but he called me out on this and said that it was unacceptable that the population of 1 Southampton was migrating to the UK every year.
What can we take away from this then? Well the issue in the UK right now is about the illegal migrants that arrive by boat. These are the real problem people that are stealing our jobs and draining the governments funds according to Reform UK and their followers. They however only make up a small percentage of the total number of people coming into the UK. According to government data small boat arrivals were only 41,000 at the end of 2025. That’s not a small number but it is much less than the 240,000. However this is not they way we should be looking at this. That number, which is just an average I calculated, fluctuates massively year on year and is also made up of students, workers and family members moving etc. According to the migration observatory the UK falls in the middle of OECD countries when it comes to migration. I think that’s pretty good considering that it once had an empire that the sun never set on. There are a lot of countries that have ties to the UK and their citizens can move here if they have the opportunity to. So basically people are getting worked up over regular demographic change that is being manipulated by the media.
So here is my opinion. I am pro migration and against borders in general which makes my opinion very biased but instead of worrying about the influx of so called dangerous migrants who are going to tear apart the very fabric of white British culture, we should be worrying about the those who are peddling these narratives. As I say to everyone who brings up this issue, its the rich ruling class that would see us divided and scrounging for the crumbs that fall from their table. They would see us fight each other and quarrel about our perceived differences when we in fact are all in the same sinking boat. We have more in common with each other than we do with multi millionaire media moguls and billionaire oligarchs who are slowly decimating our world and tearing apart the fabric of our society the world over. What can we do to stop this then? Well I’d say get involved in local politics and activist groups where you can. Our time is limited but that is by design. If you can carve out some time then going to council meetings, volunteering with local community groups that appeal to an interest you have or are pushing back on an issue you feel strongly about is the best way to know your neighbours. Is this a perfect solution? No, but it’s how you start to make change.
